Day 1 Back on the Mats… After a Thanksgiving Food Coma

It’s Wednesday. Day 1 of our four-day Tang Soo Do sprint this week.

And if I’m being honest? I’m not sure any of us were ready.

Thanksgiving hit us like a turkey truck. Days of non-stop eating, vegging on the couch, and zero structure. By Sunday night, we were all exhausted — the good kind, but still. My hamstrings were so tight from sitting (and maybe one too many helpings of pie) that I could barely touch my toes.

But today? Back to the dojang. Back to homeschool PE. Back to what grounds us when life feels like a holiday blur.

Family back at Tang Soo Do class after Thanksgiving break

Rusty, but showing up.

The reality of easing back in:

  • Warm-ups felt like they lasted twice as long (because they basically did).
  • My hamstrings screamed during every stretch — but they loosened up by the end. Progress.
  • The boys were a little looser than me, but even they admitted the holiday carbs made the jumps a bit heavier.
  • We reviewed forms we hadn’t touched in a week… and nothing fell apart. Small victories.
  • And the best part? That post-class car ride home, all of us buzzing about Saturday’s big test.

Because Saturday is it — belt testing day. Hunter’s going for blue. Sawyer and Nathan are both testing for red. And Wyatt? Our little guy is aiming for dragon blue belt. I’m not testing (just there to cheer, film, and hand out water bottles), but my heart’s in it with them.

This week is our final push: homeschool classes today and tomorrow, black-belt prep Friday night, then testing Saturday morning.

Four days. One goal. A whole lot of grace for the rusty spots.

The holiday break was a gift — time to breathe, eat, and remember we’re a family first. But being back here? It’s where we find our rhythm again. Where homeschool meets heart. Where tired legs remind us why we keep going.

Here’s to surviving the sprint… and earning those new colors on Saturday.

Tang Soo! 🥋💙

P.S. Send good vibes (and hamstring stretches) for the boys this Saturday. We’ll need ‘em! 😅
